What to put on a plumber's business card

A plumber's business card should be built for the emergency call: your name, the services you want known for, a phone number big enough to dial in a panic, a 24/7 line if you offer it, your license number, and a QR code to reviews. Plumbing is usually an emergency, so the phone number should be the largest thing on the card after your name. Nothing else is close.

We run our own home-service companies, so we think about cards the way a homeowner uses them: the card goes on the fridge and waits months for the day a pipe bursts. When that day comes, a stressed person needs to read and dial fast. Design for that one moment and the rest of the card sorts itself out.

What belongs on the card

Get these wrong and the card fails

🔢 A small phone number

If the homeowner has to squint, you've lost in the moment that matters. The number should dominate. Logo second, number first.

🕐 Hiding your hours

If you do 24/7, that line might be the reason they pick you at midnight. If you don't, say your hours so nobody calls a dead line in a crisis.

🧲 Paper-only cards

Plumbing cards live on fridges. A magnet version costs a little more and keeps you in front of the customer for years instead of a drawer.

🚫 No license shown

For a repipe or a gas line, the homeowner wants a licensed pro. Leaving it off makes you look like a handyman, not a plumber.

Where to print, and what it costs

Standard cards run about $20–$40 for 500 at Vistaprint, $25–$50 at GotPrint for heavier stock. Magnetic business cards — worth it for plumbers — run roughly $0.30–$0.60 each, so $150–$300 for 500. Given that one emergency call can be a $400 job, a fridge magnet that earns a single call has already paid for the whole batch.

When a card is enough — and when it isn't

For a one-truck plumber with a steady stream of repeat customers and referrals, fridge-magnet cards plus a good reputation can carry the business. If you're already turning down work, don't pay to generate more calls than you can answer — that's an honest reason to hold off on marketing.

But cards only reach people you've already served. The bigger pool — a homeowner at 2 AM searching "emergency plumber near me" with no card anywhere — finds whoever ranks and whoever answers. A card can't show up in that search or answer that call. A website and after-hours lead capture can.

Where we fit

The card catches the customer who already has it. We build the part that catches the rest: a fast site with click-to-call, license and reviews up front, and 24/7 AI lead capture so the midnight burst-pipe search becomes a named lead on your phone instead of a call to the next plumber down the list.

Our Start Getting Leads plan is $249/month — site, AI lead capture, hosting, updates, month-to-month, and you own everything. See plumber website design, SEO for plumbers, SEO for home services, or what local SEO costs. The AI receptionist answers the 2 AM calls you can't.

We don't post stock testimonials. On a 15-minute call we screen-share the real dashboards behind our own businesses — live leads, rankings, and the exact page that produced each one. See the proof →

Common questions

Magnet or standard card?

Magnet, for plumbers. It lives on the fridge until a pipe bursts, which is exactly when you want to be the card in front of them.

Do I need my license number on it?

Yes. Many states require licensing, and homeowners check it for the bigger jobs. It signals you're a real plumber, not a handyman.

Are cards enough on their own?

They catch repeat customers. The midnight searches go to whoever ranks and answers, which takes a website and after-hours lead capture, not a card.
